“We are all transient beings on this planet—our bodies, as well as the material world around us, are in the process of returning to dust. Nature’s cycles of growth, decay, and erosion are embodied in frayed edges, rust, liver spots. The glory and melancholy found in these marks of passing time. It takes a mind quiet enough to appreciate muted beauty… It depends on the ability to slow down, to shift the balance from doing to being, to appreciating rather than perfecting”. – Robyn Griggs Lawrence
Dance has the inherent capability of effectively staging a sense of temporal awareness. In his new creation for Up & Coming Choreographers, Bryan Arias centralizes this metaphysical idea of time: an always passing and ever present precondition of our understanding of life and the universe that surrounds us.
